Virgilio Sieni’s Elegia Luminosa, on stage at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna from 1 to 4 February 2024, is one of the five special projects of the twelfth edition of ART CITY Bologna, the institutional programme of exhibitions, events and special initiatives promoted by the Municipality of Bologna in collaboration with BolognaFiere on the occasion of Arte Fiera, which explore and reinterpret the work of Giorgio Morandi on the 60th anniversary of his death, through different contemporary languages.
The work investigates the relationship between the Bolognese master and his objects and the possibility of reading the composition phase as a choreographic and performative process: a journey of living matter towards gesture. A matter that moves towards us, an encounter between actants, between what indicates the origin of action, both human and non-human. Morandi’s works, as well as the objects he used to compose his works, tell us about a vital and exciting relationship that can be traced back to the idea of the body of light, what Jacques Derrida indicates as the intimacy between being and following: always being ready to respond to a call from something.
The performance Elegia Luminosa, open to the public, with free admission, is scheduled for the following dates and times:
Thursday 1 February 6.00 p.m. / 7.30 p.m.
