“AGAINandAGAINandAGAINand” opens on Wednesday 22nd January 2020, the collective exhibition that opens the 2020 exhibition season of MAMbo – Bologna Museum of Modern Art.
The Sala delle Ciminiere of the Bolognese museum will appear transfigured by the peculiar presence of the works of seven of the most famous contemporary artists: Ed Atkins, Luca Francesconi, Apostolos Georgiou, Ragnar Kjartansson, Susan Philipsz, Cally Spooner, Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
The exhibition, curated by Lorenzo Balbi with the curatorial assistance of Sabrina Samorì, will remain open to the public from January 23rd to May 3rd 2020 and is one of the ART CITY Bologna 2020 Main projects, the institutional program of exhibitions, events and special initiatives promoted by the Municipality of Bologna in collaboration with BolognaFiere for Arte Fiera.
The theme of cyclicality and the overcoming of the linear representation of time pervades the contemporary scientific debate to such an extent that physicists can be considered the center of a revolution of thought that is leading us to reconsider the very idea of time through new theories like that of loop strings and loop quantum gravity.
AGAINandAGAINandAGAINand aims to investigate the theme of the loop, the repetition and the cyclicality in the contemporary world, analyzing it from different angles through the works of artists who have put the topic at the center of their research.
The authors of the works that will be set up in the spaces of MAMbo come from different parts of the world and problematize the theme, showing how in art today there is a reflection on time and on the forms of knowledge and power that flow from it.
Ranging between different media – performance, video, sculpture, painting, photography and installation – the project proposes a structured journey in immersive environments, characterized by different time intensity.
