The twelfth edition of ART CITY Bologna, the programme of exhibitions, events, and initiatives promoted by the Municipality of Bologna in collaboration with BolognaFiere, will take place from 1 to 4 February 2024, on the occasion of Arte Fiera, this year reaching its fiftieth edition.
And it is precisely to celebrate this historic milestone that ART CITY Bologna, under the artistic directART CITY Bologna 2024
ion of Lorenzo Balbi, has chosen to pay homage to the most important modern artist born and lived in the city of Bologna, Giorgio Morandi (1890-1964), on the 60th anniversary of his death, proposing a programme inspired by him. Five special projects will explore and reinterpret the Maestro’s work through different contemporary languages: Virgilio Sieni for performance, Joel Meyerowitz and Mary Ellen Bartley for photography, Tacita Dean for video art, Mark Vernon for sound.
As usual, during ART CITY Bologna the entire city will be the stage for contemporary culture thanks to the participation of numerous public and private institutions, art galleries, and independent spaces that will complete the artistic offer with an intense calendar of exhibitions, performances, events, installations, talks, and meetings, highlighting the strength of a plural, widespread cultural system, generator of creative energies and connections. Also in 2024 the boundaries of the event will be projected beyond the city limits, in a polycentric territorial sphere that will involve the entire metropolitan area of Bologna, animating a palimpsest composed of over 200 events.
